Job summary

Renesas Electronics seeks a Senior Staff Engineer to provide technical leadership for robotics and GPU‑based SoC applications using the R‑Car family. Qualifications

• Bachelor's/Master's/PhD in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in embedded systems, semiconductor/app engineering, robotics, or related fields.
• Strong embedded development and debugging experience using C and C++.
• Deep understanding of embedded SoC architecture, CPU/GPU/memory/firmware/drivers/middleware/accelerators.
• Strong hands-on experience with embedded Linux and system-level debugging.
• Experience with BSPs, bootloaders, Linux kernel, drivers, firmware, and user-space apps.
• Knowledge of heterogeneous multicore architectures, memory management, IPC, DMA, shared memory, accelerators.
• Hands-on knowledge of GPU architecture and compute.
• Experience with Vulkan, OpenCL, OpenGL ES, Vulkan Compute, or OpenVX.
• Experience with profiling, tracing, logging, and debugging tools.
• Familiarity with embedded AI/ML workloads on heterogeneous SoCs.
• Strong problem-solving and customer-facing communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Act as senior technical lead for R-Car based humanoid robotics, physical AI, autonomous systems, and advanced robotic platforms.
• Lead collaboration with the Physical AI & Humanoid Lab to develop robotic platforms, prototypes, proofs-of-concept, and demonstrations.
• Lead ecosystem partner project execution to develop robotic reference designs and reusable customer solutions.
• Support customer and partner programs from architecture and platform bring-up through software integration, debugging, and optimization.
• Lead root-cause analysis of complex hardware/software issues across Linux, ROS2, GPUs, device drivers, and memory systems.
• Analyze customer architectures against R-Car capabilities and identify gaps, risks and solutions.
• Support RFI/RFQ activities, architecture reviews, and design reviews with customers.
• Develop robotic proofs-of-concepts, demonstrations, reference apps, and benchmarks showcasing R-Car capabilities.
• Provide technical expertise in GPU compute and heterogeneous processing, including workload partitioning and synchronization.
