Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC in Chicago, IL is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to serve as the technical anchor for the Channels division. You will partner with engineering leaders to ship faster and safer while evolving foundational systems across multiple teams.

You’ll split time between high-impact technical leadership and hands-on work on critical projects, mentoring engineers, improving observability, and driving architectural direction to support a maturing suite of channels at scale.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering, with leadership across multiple teams or complex systems.
• Experience across full stack using Ruby on Rails and modern frontend (TypeScript, React).
• Designed and shipped foundational infrastructure used by many engineers.
• Strong architectural judgment; balance abstraction with simplicity for a maturing product.
• Effective communicator and mentor; translate technical debt into business risk and coach teams.
• Track record of delivering high-impact work amid ambiguity across teams.

Responsibilities

• Define technical vision and quality bar for the division; drive architecture and best practices.
• Lead large, ambiguous end-to-end projects across multiple teams.
• Evolve stacks for sophisticated marketing use cases; ensure flexible primitives.
• Mentor engineers at all levels; code and architecture reviews; pairing.
• Improve observability and operability; advocate for safe rollouts and fewer incidents.
• Write code; build foundational systems and frameworks that scale the organization.
