Job summary

Realtor.com is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to drive technical leadership within the Avail renter technology team at our Austin-based offices. You will architect and develop scalable full-stack applications, influence technical direction across multiple teams, and mentor engineers to deliver cutting-edge products that empower landlords and renters.

You will collaborate with product and design to align solutions with business goals, lead critical initiatives, and shape our core technology

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2+ years in a senior or staff-level engineering role.
• Expertise in designing and building full stack applications.
• Strong programming skills in Ruby on Rails.
• Experience leading engineering initiatives and mentoring other engineers.
• Excellent problem-solving Skills and the ability to navigate complex technical challenges.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work across teams and influence decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and architecture of complex systems and services to ensure scalability, reliability, and security.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Design) to deliver innovative solutions aligned with business goals.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and senior engineers, helping to level up the team’s skill set.
• Drive best practices in code quality, testing, and maintainability to ensure long-term sustainability.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes.
• Influence and contribute to the engineering roadmap by identifying technology gaps, scaling challenges, and potential areas of improvement.
• Research and evaluate new tools, technologies, and methodologies to enhance the team's efficiency and scalability.
• Act as a technical expert, providing guidance in troubleshooting and debugging complex issues in production.
• Participate in recruitment, interviews, and onboarding to help grow the engineering team.
