Job summary

HiveWatch in El Segundo, CA is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to own the edge gateway stack—from the Linux OS hardening to container orchestration—and to guide a growing engineering team. You will become the technical center of gravity for our edge appliance and drive a coherent, production-grade stack across customer environments.

You will lead Platform/DevOps initiatives, improve observability, CI/CD, and IaC, and work with AWS, Kubernetes, and the team's Kotlin/Rust/TypeScript/Python stack.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience in production environments.
• 5+ years in platform engineering, infrastructure, or distributed systems in a senior role.
• Expertise with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and containerized apps (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar).
• Proficiency in Kotlin, Rust, TypeScript, or Python.
• Experience building and operating edge or IoT systems in production.
• Experience with monitoring/observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog).
• Strong debugging skills across distributed systems and microservices architectures.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Become the go-to expert and technical lead for the edge appliance stack (Linux OS, hardening, patching, container runtime, orchestration).
• Lead Platform/DevOps initiatives including architecture, design, scoping and implementation of Platform features.
• Own observability for the edge: metrics, logging, tracing for appliances on external infrastructure.
• Raise testing bar for edge software including fleet-level validation before shipping changes.
• Contribute to remaining Platform systems: DevEx/CICD, network architecture, database maintenance.
• Evolve software development and delivery practices with AI-Native techniques.
• Deliver platform features to customers on AWS using IaC, CI/CD, and modern service delivery practices.
• Increase resiliency, scalability, and maintainability of production/test/dev environments.
• Assist with talent acquisition as the team grows, and participate in 24/7 on-call rotation.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and foster culture of communication and excellence.
