Job summary

HiveWatch is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to be the technical center of gravity for the HiveWatch Gateway edge appliance. You’ll own the full stack from OS hardening to container runtime and orchestration, guiding a growing engineering team under the VP of Engineering.

You’ll drive architectural decisions, DevOps improvements, and a strong observability/story for deployed devices, while mentoring engineers and participating in 24/7 on-call rotations.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with strong coding skills in production environments.
• 5+ years of platform engineering, infrastructure, or distributed systems experience in a senior role.
• Expertise with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and containerized applications (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)
• Proficiency in at least one language in our tech stack (Kotlin, Rust, TypeScript, Python)
• Experience building and operating edge or IoT systems in production environments
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog, or equivalent)
• Strong debugging skills across distributed systems and microservices architectures
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

Responsibilities

• Become the go-to expert and technical lead for our edge appliance stack across OS, container runtime, and orchestration.
• Lead Platform/DevOps initiatives including architecture and feature design.
• Own observability for the edge: metrics, logging, tracing.
• Raise the testing bar for edge software and fleet-level validation.
• Contribute to remaining Platform systems: DevEx/CICD, network architecture, database maintenance.
• Evolve engineering practices with AI-native approaches.
• Deliver platform features to customers on AWS using IaC, CI/CD.
• Increase resiliency, scalability, maintainability of environments.
• Assist with talent acquisition as we scale team.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and conduct RCA.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship.
