Job summary

OpenArc, LLC. is seeking an Sr. Staff Electrical Engineer to lead the development of medical device hardware, including digital image acquisition, computer vision, and video streaming.

You will drive high-speed board design, component selection, and cross-functional collaboration with FPGA and SW teams. The role emphasizes design controls, compliance with IEC 60601 series, and support for FDA/ISO processes.

Qualifications

  • Experience in high-speed board design with SI/PI understanding and proven track record bringing products from concept to launch.
  • Proficient with ECAD tools (Cadence OrCAD, Altium, etc.) and lab test equipment.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting, data-driven decisions, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams including electrical, software, systems and mechanical engineers.
  • Design controls experience in medical devices and familiarity with IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, IEC 60601-2-18 and IEC 60601-2-2 is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, and develop digital electronics within medical device products.
  • Lead high-speed board design and multi-layer PCB work.
  • Review schematics and own component selection based on requirements.
  • Collaborate with FPGA and software teams for connectivity and functionality.
  • Conduct design reviews and prepare test protocols and fixtures.
  • Bring-up prototype boards and perform testing and failure analysis.
  • Support regulatory testing (FDA/ISO) and maintain Design History Files.
  • Mentor junior engineers and explore new technologies for future products.

Job summary

We are seeking an Sr. Staff Electrical Engineer, who will be a leading contributor to the development of medical device hardware, encompassing digital image acquisition and processing, computer vision, and video streaming.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, prototype, and develop digital electronics design within Smith+Nebew medical products:
  • Perform tasks related to high speed, multilayer, board design.
  • Create and review schematics.
  • Own components selection based on given requirements.
  • Lead interoperability between boards based on electrical system architecture
  • Understand and provide input to system power requirements
  • Work with FPGA and SW designers to support FPGA and on-board Processor connectivity and functionality.
  • Conduct technical design reviews as needed.
  • Test/debug:
  • Bring-up of prototype circuit boards.
  • Develop test protocols and fixtures.
  • Document results of testing and failure analysis
  • Provide technical support to other groups as required to bring a product successfully through commercialization. Help maintain existing products and support Smith+Nebew vendor technical questions.
  • Coordinate and support electrical safety (IEC/UL 60601-1, IEC 60601-2-2, IEC 60601-2-18) and EMC (IEC60601-1-2) certification testing.
  • Perform design control functions to ensure compliance with FDA, ISO, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Participate in ownership of Design History Files, as well as writing specifications and test documents (protocols/report) as needed.
  • Leadership:
  • Lead/Mentor Junior engineers as required
  • Investigate new technologies that could be used in the future products.
Requirements:
  • Experience in high-speed board design, leveraging deep SI/PI understanding as well as good analytical and problem-solving skills. This includes experience in taking at least two products from inception to launch.
  • Proficient with at least one ECAD tool (Cadence OrCAD, Altium, etc.).
  • Proficient in hands on trouble shooting, problem solving and critical thinking (making logical decisions based on data collected).
  • Proficient in using lab equipment and debugging tools, such as oscilloscope, logic analyzer and multimeters.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team of electrical, software, systems, and mechanical engineers
  • Experience with design controls, preferably in the medical device industry.
  • Experience in IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, IC 60601-2-18, and IEC 60601-2-2 is preferred
  • Experience with Analog circuits and microcontroller hardware and software is preferred
  • Experience in a work environment with rapid growth and quick scope changes is desired.
