Job summary

OpenArc is seeking an Electrical Engineer Technician to support first prototype builds and early engineering development, helping transition products into manufacturing. You will work with engineering teams to design, build, test and troubleshoot prototype systems, applying electrical and mechanical knowledge to solve challenges.

Qualifications

  • PCB rework and cable assembly experience
  • Knowledge of IPC soldering and PCB workmanship standards
  • Hands-on electromechanical build experience with troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to document builds, troubleshooting steps, repair findings, and feedback for engineering and management
  • CAD experience using industry tools

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, install, test, and troubleshoot prototype systems with a focus on early-stage development
  • Perform electrical assembly work including soldering, cable harnessing, electronics assembly, and enclosure assembly
  • Complete soldering tasks with fine-pitch, through-hole, SMT components, ICs and other assemblies
  • Build cable harnesses and assist with drawings, documentation, and build notes
  • Follow technical drawings and schematics (Altium, EDA tools, SolidWorks, CAD models) rather than step-by-step instructions
  • Provide critical feedback for design improvements and first-draft assembly processes
  • Identify tooling needs and help maintain tools used by the team
  • Use electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, benchtop power supplies, multimeters during testing

Job summary

You will primarily support first prototype builds and early engineering development. As designs mature, you will also participate in pilot builds, helping transition products from engineering into manufacturing.

Technicians are expected to bring practical fabrication ideas, apply electrical and mechanical knowledge to solve technical challenges, and provide feedback that improves product design, manufacturability, reliability, and overall quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside engineering teams to design, develop, install, test, and troubleshoot prototype systems, with a focus on early-stage development
  • Perform electrical assembly work including soldering, cable harnessing, electronics assembly, and electronics enclosure assembly
  • Complete soldering tasks that may include fine-pitch components, through-hole components, SMT components, ICs, and other electronic assemblies
  • Build cable harnesses and assist engineering with cable drawings, documentation, and build notes
  • Work from technical drawings and schematics, including Altium, EDA tools, SolidWorks, CAD models, and related documentation, rather than detailed step-by-step work instructions
  • Provide critical feedback for design improvements and help develop first-draft assembly processes
  • Recommend productivity improvements, identify tooling needs, and help maintain tools used by the team
  • Use electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, benchtop power supplies, multimeters, and related tools during system testing and troubleshooting.

Requirements:

  • Experience with PCB rework and cable assembly, with the ability to demonstrate these skills during the interview process
  • Knowledge of IPC standards for soldering, cable assembly, and PCB workmanship
  • Hands-on electromechanical build experience with strong troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to document builds, troubleshooting steps, repair findings, and feedback for engineering and management
  • CAD experience
