Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to define and lead the technical strategy for our Data Platform, spanning ingestion, transformation, warehousing, streaming, and serving systems. You’ll set architectural direction and drive multi-quarter roadmaps to power fraud detection, analytics, and AI workflows.

You will partner with product, privacy, security, and ML teams to architect platform-grade infrastructure and influence executive decisions while mentoring senior engineers.

Qualifications

• 12+ years building and operating large-scale distributed data infrastructure.
• Experience owning end-to-end technical strategy and architecture across multiple teams.
• Deep systems thinking across the data lifecycle including performance, security, privacy.
• Experience designing data systems for ML pipelines, real-time inference, or AI workloads at scale; familiarity with Kafka, Databricks, Snowflake.
• Platform mindset with developer-focused data infrastructure and reducing friction for users.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical strategy and architecture for Data Platform across ingestion, transformation, warehousing, streaming, and serving systems; drive cost reduction at the infra layer.
• Architect data infrastructure to natively support AI/ML workloads and real-time analytics.
• Drive evolution to near-real-time data availability for downstream teams (fraud, reporting, analytics).
• Build alignment and secure commitment from senior leadership and cross-functional partners on priorities and tradeoffs.
• Serve as primary technical voice for Data Platform in org-wide forums (OKR planning, architecture reviews).
