Job summary

Uber is seeking a Senior Staff Backend Engineer to set the technical direction for AV and Customer Obsession experiences. You will own architecture across AV, Fleet, Uber for Business, and Direct integrations to build a unified backend foundation.

You’ll collaborate with engineering, product, operations, and platform teams to scale systems, implement proactive trip-lifecycle support, and drive end-to-end testing and reliability as Uber expands across cities and partners.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional full-time software engineering experience.
• Strong backend language expertise (Go, Java, or C++).
• Extensive backend engineering and distributed systems experience.
• Experience designing and operating large-scale, highly available systems.
• Proven technical leadership across multiple teams.
• Strong system design, architecture, and cross-functional communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Define the backend architecture and technical strategy for AV customer support systems.
• Establish scalable integration patterns across Fleet, U4B, Direct, and other emerging businesses.
• Partner with the Customer Obsession Platform team to leverage shared platform and Agentic AI capabilities.
• Build proactive trip-lifecycle support, reliability, and end-to-end testing strategies.
• Drive alignment across Engineering, Product, Operations, and platform teams.
• Mentor Senior engineers toward Staff-level impact.
