Job summary

Uber is seeking a Staff Software Engineer (Backend) to lead design and delivery of scalable backend systems powering Earners experiences. You will own end-to-end execution, mentor engineers, and collaborate across product, design, and infra teams to ship secure, reliable services.

The role emphasizes deep backend expertise, architectural vision, and hands-on coding across Go/Java/Python/etc. with a focus on performance and scalable architectures.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience with backend focus.
• Experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems.
• Hands-on AI experience with LLMs and AI-assisted development practices.
• Expertise in one or more backend languages (Go, Java, Python, Ruby, Node.js).
• Deep understanding of API design, SQL/NoSQL databases, and cloud infrastructure.
• Proven technical leadership delivering high-impact features.
• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering/Math or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of scalable backend systems and APIs.
• Own end-to-end execution of high-impact projects from ideation to production.
• Collaborate with product, design, and frontend engineers to deliver great UX.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices in coding and architecture.
