Job summary

Local Progress seeks a Senior Staff Attorney to join its national legal and policy team. This remote, U.S.-based role emphasizes immigrant justice, policy analysis, and collaboration with national, state, and local partners to advance inclusive local governance.

You will draft memos and amicus briefs, develop policy resources, and guide strategy for the Immigrant Justice Steering Committee, reporting to the Managing Director, Legal and Policy. Travel up to six days a month is expected.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree and admission to a state bar.
• At least 9 years of policy or legal experience and at least 4 years working on immigrant justice issues.
• Experience with organizing and campaigns, including working with organizers or movement lawyering.
• Strong writing and verbal communication, with ability to translate complex information for varied audiences.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, plans, and stakeholders; and to navigate power dynamics with commitment to justice.
• Willingness to travel monthly and work in a national/local policy context.

Responsibilities

• Produce, edit, and review legal memos, amicus briefs, and other legal documents; oversee production by partners.
• Lead development of resources that move members into action across our network, including policy briefs and toolkits.
• Engage with staff, members, and partners to provide policy and legal analysis, sometimes in rapid-response situations.
• Lead the organization’s immigrant justice strategy and staff the Immigrant Justice Steering Committee; coordinate with national/state/local partners.
• Collaborate across Local Progress teams and support funder relationships and program infrastructure.
