Job summary

The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) is hiring two full-time Criminal/Immigration Senior Staff or Managing Attorneys based in San Francisco or remote from Southern California or the Central Valley. The positions are exempt and paid under the bargaining unit represented by NOLSW.

ILRC has a hybrid model requiring two in-office days per week for SF-based staff. The role focuses on the complex crim/imm intersection, supporting public defenders and immigration advocates, and shaping policy

Qualifications

• A minimum of seven years of experience as a crim/imm expert.
• Broad knowledge of the intersection of criminal and immigration law.
• Excellent writing, editing, legal analysis, and communication skills.
• Excellent training and presentation skills.
• Ability to lead meetings with diverse stakeholders including attorneys and policymakers.
• Willing to travel approximately 10% of their time across California and nationally.
• Current Bar membership in good standing in the United States or DC, preferably CA.

Responsibilities

• Guide ILRC’s crim/imm team and serve as senior expert on crim/imm.
• Provide technical support to public defenders and immigration advocates on crim/imm matters.
• Analyze new state and federal cases, USCIS policies, and other legal developments.
• Write practice advisories on crim/imm topics for attorneys and other audiences.
• Prepare and lead webinars and in-person seminars on crim/imm topics.
• Create and update crim/imm resources, including online materials like the California Quick Reference Chart.
• Write, update, and edit ILRC manuals on crim/imm issues.
• Function as Attorney of the Day to answer practitioners’ questions.
• Cultivate relationships with public defender offices; travel across CA and nationally.
• Train public defenders, immigration attorneys, judges, and other stakeholders on crim/imm.
• Support policy campaigns; draft legislation and testify as needed.
• Write grant proposals and manage deliverables; engage with funders.
• Travel for trainings, funder visits, and other events; support litigation matters as needed.
