Position Summary:

The Senior Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of the organization with a specialized focus on the unique accounting needs of a healthcare practice. This individual is responsible for preparing and analyzing financial statements, maintaining accurate records, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and supporting operational efficiency across clinics, surgical centers, and outpatient services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and company policy.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including revenue, expenses, assets, and liabilities.
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to support strategic decision-making by leadership and clinical administrators.

Revenue Management

  • Coordinate with billing and revenue cycle teams to ensure accurate capture of procedure codes (CPT), durable medical equipment (DME) billing, and imaging services revenue.
  • Monitor collections and reimbursements from Medicare, Medicaid, private insurers, and workers’ compensation payors, ensuring accurate contractual allowances.
  • Reconcile clinic, surgical center, and ancillary services revenue to ensure timely and accurate recognition under ASC 606.

Regulatory Compliance & Audit Support

  • Assist with internal controls and documentation required for audits by public accounting firms or regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare accounting regulations, including HIPAA, CMS guidelines, and billing standards.
  • Support preparation of cost reports or payor-specific reporting as needed.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Contribute to annual budget development and periodic reforecasting processes.
  • Analyze financial performance of service lines, including surgeries, consultations, imaging, and DME.
  • Prepare variance analyses comparing actual to budgeted results with commentary for leadership review.

Operational & System Improvements

  • Recommend and implement improvements in accounting procedures, particularly those that support high-volume clinical operations.
  • Utilize financial and practice management software to enhance automation and reporting accuracy.
  • Collaborate with clinical operations, surgery center managers, and procurement staff to improve financial visibility.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
  • CPA or CPA-eligible (preferred)

Experience:

  • 3–6 years of experience in healthcare accounting, with preference for surgical practice experience
  • Knowledge of billing practices, reimbursement models, and procedure-based cost accounting

Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct)
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with coding (ICD-10, CPT), revenue cycle operations, and payer contracts
