Job summary

Ursa Major’s SRM team seeks Senior Design Engineers to design and qualify solid rocket motor nozzles and insulation systems. You’ll lead nozzle architecture, drive test campaigns, and work on the build floor with technicians to resolve issues in real time.

You’ll collaborate across analysis, manufacturing, test, systems, and supply chain teams, ensuring designs meet performance, reliability, cost, and schedule targets while maintaining rigorous documentation and schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
• 5+ years in rocket propulsion or related hardware.
• Experience with erosive and nonerosive nozzle designs.
• First-order fluids and thermal analyses for geometry decisions.
• Proficiency with CAD and engineering analysis tools.
• Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluids, heat transfer, and structures.
• Ability to work autonomously within scope.
• Effective written and verbal communication for cross-functional work.
• Eligibility for US DoD Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of solid rocket motor nozzles, shells, insulators, and interfaces.
• Translate requirements into manufacturable nozzle designs meeting targets.
• Lead design trades across materials, processes, and architectures.
• Plan and support development test campaigns to derisk concepts.
• Review test data and post-test hardware for performance verification.
• Provide hands-on build/test support and resolve issues in real time.
• Drive cross-functional collaboration to meet stakeholder needs.
• Maintain aggressive project schedules and risk mitigation plans.
• Generate and review CAD models and drawings per ASME standards.
• Maintain documentation including reviews, plans, and reports.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
