Job summary

Peraton Labs is recruiting a Senior Site Reliability Engineer in Reston, VA. You will own the enterprise application's reliability end-to-end, define SLOs, and build dashboards and alerts. You will write production Python and Rust, instrument services, and manage incident response with blameless postmortems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 8+ years in SRE/platform/software engineering with production reliability ownership.
• Strong Python; Rust experience preferred; able to ship production changes and improve performance, concurrency, and failure handling.
• Experience defining SLIs/SLOs, monitoring and alerting ownership, and building dashboards.
• Instrumentation with metrics, logging, and distributed tracing in Python and Rust.
• Incident management, blameless postmortems, and corrective action workflows.
• Extensive AWS/EKS/Kubernetes operations knowledge and GitOps tooling.
• CI/CD in GitHub Actions or GitLab CI with reliability gates.
• Infrastructure as code with OpenTofu/Terraform; security and compliance awareness.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end reliability of enterprise applications, define SLOs, and enforce error budgets.
• Write and review production Python and Rust code to improve performance and resilience.
• Instrument services with metrics, logging, and tracing (OpenTelemetry).
• Develop dashboards and alerts in Grafana/CloudWatch to answer operational questions.
• Lead incident response, postmortems, and drive corrective actions to closure.
• Operate EKS/Kubernetes and core AWS services; manage CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
• Ensure secrets management, least privilege, and audit evidence for compliance.
• Mentor engineers on reliability practices and capacity planning.
