Job summary

Kong is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager for Managed Gateways SREs to drive reliability and scalability of our managed services. You will build this team in Seattle from the ground up, staying hands-on in early work across Americas and Europe.

You will architect scalable cloud-native systems with Kubernetes and Golang, own SLOs/SLIs, lead incident response, implement automation to reduce toil, and collaborate across teams to ensure enterprise readiness.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading and managing SRE/DevOps teams in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
• Deep expertise in designing, deploying, and operating highly available distributed systems on cloud platforms.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments.
• Proficiency in Golang or similar modern languages for infrastructure automation.
• Strong observability knowledge with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar.
• Demonstrated ability to manage critical incidents and perform root cause analysis.
• Familiarity with API gateway technologies or service mesh is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build Kong's Managed Gateways SRE team in Seattle, Washington from the ground up, hiring, setting the bar, and staying hands-on.
• Contribute to critical implementations and reliability work to move growth and business performance.
• Lead and grow a high-performing SRE team supporting Americas and Europe.
• Architect and implement scalable cloud-native systems using Kubernetes and Golang.
• Own end-to-end operational lifecycle: monitoring, alerting, incident response, post-mortems.
• Drive automation and self-service tooling to reduce toil and improve deployment workflows.
• Define, track, and report on SLOs/SLIs and promote architectural best practices.
• Collaborate with Product, Eng, and Support to ensure readiness for new features.
