Job summary

Datavail is hiring a Senior Database Engineer/SQL Server DBA to support mission-critical database systems across multiple clients and industries. This role emphasizes automation, cloud-native platforms, and proactive issue prevention, not reactive ticketing, with a remote-first managed services approach and 24x7 support.

The ideal candidate acts as a trusted advisor, serving as the Primary DBA for one or more clients, leading service delivery with hands-on engineering and consultative guidance.

Qualifications

• Senior-level SQL Server specialist acting as trusted technical advisor
• Primary DBA for one or more clients, proactive performance tuning
• Travel up to 20% domestically for client onsite visits

• Experience with cloud-native database platforms and architecture strategy

Responsibilities

• Serve as trusted advisor to clients for performance, availability, and security
• Advise on cloud database architecture, migration, and cost optimization (AWS/Azure)
• Lead architecture design, DR planning, and capacity forecasting
• Own end-to-end database service lifecycle: backup, HA/DR, remediation, roadmap
• Define and track SLOs for database availability and performance
• Lead root-cause analysis and implement automation to prevent recurrence
• Design scalable database structures including partitioning and auditing
• Develop deployment/rollback scripts and coordinate cross-environment updates
• Build automation (Python, PowerShell) for backups, monitoring, and reporting
• Collaborate with client teams and executives to translate tech findings into business insights
