Job summary

Republic Airways is seeking a Senior DBA to own core SQL Server responsibilities while driving modernization across the enterprise data platform. You will design for scale, harden production environments, and partner across IT to keep mission-critical systems stable and performant.

You will work with Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, PostgreSQL, and DynamoDB as part of a broader modernization strategy, with deep hands-on expertise preferred across adjacent platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience considered.
• 8+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments.
• Expert-level T-SQL for query development, optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with monitoring tools and dashboards for observing database health and performance.
• Proven ability to upgrade and migrate legacy SQL Server versions to current releases.
• Hands-on HA/DR, security hardening, and performance tuning expertise.
• Working knowledge of Azure SQL and Azure Synapse Analytics.
• Experience with incident tooling and alerting platforms (PagerDuty, Opsgenie, or similar).
• Ability to lead cross-functional projects and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Install & configure SQL Server instances across clustered, standalone, and cloud environments.
• Monitor health, analyze query plans, optimize indexes, and troubleshoot bottlenecks.
• Develop and optimize T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts.
• Design and maintain backup strategies with regular restores to meet RPO/RTO.
• Implement HA/DR solutions including Always On, replication, and failover clustering.
• Enforce security standards, manage permissions, and ensure audit readiness.
• Manage SQL Agent jobs and build automation with PowerShell and T-SQL.
• Coordinate upgrades, patches, and environment lifecycle management.
• Maintain runbooks, configuration docs, and operational standards.
• Provide on-call support for production systems.
