Job summary

Penumbra, Inc., headquartered in Alameda, CA, seeks a Senior SQL Administrator to manage enterprise database platforms across on-premises and cloud environments. You will design, implement, monitor, and optimize highly available SQL Server systems supporting critical business applications.

The role requires 8+ years of experience, strong HA/DR, security, automation, and documentation skills; on-site work in California is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of enterprise-level database administration/engineering experience.
• 5+ years experience with high availability, disaster recovery, backup, restore strategies.
• Strong experience with SQL Server performance tuning, indexing, queries, execution plans, and maintenance.
• Experience with Azure SQL Database or SQL Server in Azure is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and optimize SQL Server environments on-premises, virtualized, and in the cloud.
• Monitor health, performance, backups, security, and capacity; manage job execution and replication.
• Implement high availability and disaster recovery: Always On, clustering, log shipping, backups, restore testing.
• Develop automation for maintenance, monitoring, alerting, and operational reporting.
• Document runbooks, standards, and procedures; support cross-team collaboration.
