Job summary

Medata Inc. in the United States seeks a Senior Database Administrator to own SQL Server environments across production and non-production, ensuring security, performance, and reliability.

You will mentor DBAs, lead upgrades and cloud migrations (Azure SQL), implement standards, and collaborate with application teams. This senior role requires strong T-SQL, HA/DR expertise, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years' experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in a production enterprise environment.
• Proven expert in T-SQL, query optimization, and performance tuning.
• Experience with HA/DR architectures (Always On, failover clustering, log shipping).
• Cloud experience with Azure SQL and/or AWS RDS preferred.
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills; Agile familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Architect, implement, and maintain highly available, secure, and scalable SQL Server databases.
• Own HA/DR strategy and lead regular DR testing.
• Lead capacity planning and performance initiatives; resolve systemic issues.
• Establish and enforce database standards, security, backup/recovery, and monitoring.
• Serve as escalation point for critical incidents; drive root cause analysis.
• Lead upgrades, migrations, and cloud consolidations (Azure SQL).
• Evaluate tools and automation (PowerShell, RedGate, IaC) to improve reliability.
• Mentor DBAs and provide technical leadership and career guidance.
• Collaborate on database design reviews and performance tuning with dev teams.
• Manage vendor relationships and licensing for database platforms.
