Job summary

CSA Group is seeking a seasoned Special Inspector to perform field inspections and ensure compliance with NYC Building Code across multiple project sites in New York. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least 10 years of hands-on inspection experience in masonry, concrete, rebar, bolting, and welding.

Certification with ACI, ICC, and CWI is required; PE is a plus. Strong reporting and coordination skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
• Minimum 10 years of onsite special inspections experience (Masonry, Concrete, Rebar, Bolting, Welding).
• Certifications: ACI, ICC, CWI required; PE preferred.
• Proficiency with MS Office and reporting systems such as Procore.
• Strong knowledge of NYC Building Code and DOB requirements.
• Ability to interpret drawings and project documents.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; report writing.
• Ability to manage multiple inspections and meet schedules.

Responsibilities

• Perform special inspections and field observations per NYC Building Code and project specs.
• Verify construction activities comply with plans and regulatory requirements.
• Inspect structural steel, concrete, masonry, fireproofing, mechanical systems, energy code.
• Document inspection activities and deficiencies in clear reports.
• Identify non-conforming work and verify corrective actions.
• Review drawings, RFIs, submittals, and project docs.
• Coordinate with contractors, PMs, design professionals, labs, and clients.
• Maintain inspection records per QMS and project requirements.
• Follow safety policies and PPE usage.
• Support scheduling by responding to requests and flexibility across sites.
