Job summary

Qualifications

• Valid PA Supervisor's Certificate and a Master's in Special Education are required.
• Experience as middle/secondary school teacher or assistant principal.
• At least five years of teaching excellence.
• Knowledge of special education law, disabilities, and current trends.

Responsibilities

• Promote the educational mission of SPED programs district-wide.
• Apply and revise district-wide SPED rights and responsibilities as applicable.
• Implement, promote, and monitor federal and state SPED laws, regulations, and standards.
• Support and remediate programs that are unsuccessful or inefficient.
• Supervise SPED classroom programs for disabled and gifted students.
• Ensure SPED students participate in regular education where appropriate.
• Guide multidisciplinary teams and IEPs.
• Coordinate Home and Homebound Instruction for SPED students.
• Participate in evaluation of SPED staff; provide feedback to leadership.
• Mentor new SPED teachers with principals; tailor induction for non-tenured staff.
• Utilize differentiated supervision in SPED teacher workloads.
• Interview and recommend SPED paraprofessionals.
• Plan staff development and in-service opportunities for SPED staff.
• Transition students from Early Intervention to school age programming.
• Establish and oversee the Extended School Year program.
• Enhance instruction with community-based activities and field trips.
• Direct placements of move-in SPED students and ensure due process.
• Oversee SPED class rosters and data accuracy.
• Serve as liaison to families in non-public SPED programs.
• Resolve attendance issues with SPED students with leadership.
• Coordinate end-of-year student moves by grade level promotions.
• Interface with leadership to resolve SPED service delivery conflicts.
• Address inquiries from parents regarding SPED services promptly.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
