Job summary

Muon Space in San Jose, CA is seeking a Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer to design, test, and validate spacecraft electrical hardware. You’ll contribute across avionics systems, from flight computers to power distribution, in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

The role emphasizes hands-on hardware bring-up, collaboration with software and mechanical teams, and mentorship to peers. Hybrid onsite work three days per week in San Jose.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field preferred.
• 5-8 years of hardware engineering experience; internships and academic projects count.
• Familiarity with test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies).
• Expert level schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Altium, Cadence/Orcad).
• Knowledge of microcontrollers and interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet).
• Experience with embedded systems and Linux development environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical hardware for spacecraft avionics, including flight computers, power distribution, and communication systems.
• Schematic capture and PCB layout.
• Bring-up, testing, and validation of hardware.
• Collaborate with software engineers for hardware/software integration.
• Build and test early hardware prototypes; mitigate risks.
• Work cross-functionally with mechanical, software, systems, and production teams for integration and manufacturability.
• Create design documentation, test procedures, and reports.
• Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Mentor other engineers and push the team forward.
