Job summary

Muon Space seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical direction of spacecraft subsystems from concept through flight. You will design, analyze, and document complex assemblies while coordinating across structures, thermal, avionics, propulsion, and GNC teams.

You will mentor junior engineers, lead design reviews, and ensure on-time delivery within a fast-paced, hybrid work environment in San Jose, CA.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, building, and testing high‑reliability hardware.
• Proven ability to own mechanical subsystems from concept through flight.
• Experience leading cross-disciplinary design reviews and trade studies.
• Hands-on experience with integration, test, and issue resolution on flight hardware.
• Strong documentation, drawing, and GD&T proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end mechanical design of spacecraft subsystems from requirements to flight.
• Set design/analysis approach for complex assemblies and defend trade-offs.
• Lead design reviews and review others' designs and analyses.
• Drive integration and test, troubleshoot root causes during build and flight operations.
• Coordinate with structures, thermal, avionics, propulsion, and GNC for vehicle integration.
• Mentor engineers and raise technical bar across the team.
