Job summary

Umbra is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership for a complex space mission program spanning space, ground, launch, and mission operations. The role maintains the program baseline and aligns internal teams, partners, and the customer.

The Lead Systems Engineer works closely with the Program Manager to manage execution, respond to customer needs, manage scope, assess risks, and develop offsets as requirements evolve.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of systems engineering experience on aerospace or remote sensing programs.
• Knowledge of SAR and remote sensing concepts.
• Experience with mission modeling and simulation tools (STK, FreeFlyer).
• Ability to develop and lead systems engineering docs and reviews.
• Experience with flight ops, ground systems, and flight-software maintenance.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and resolve technical issues.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain the program technical baseline, ensuring requirements, interfaces, architecture, and technical decisions remain aligned across the program.
• Provide systems engineering leadership across the Space, Ground, Launch, Mission Operations, and Modeling & Simulation elements.
• Maintain technical alignment among Umbra engineering teams, program management, partners, and the customer.
• Partner daily with the Program Manager to address customer requests, maintain program scope, manage technical risks, and develop offsets.
• Support mission design, analysis, and modeling & simulation activities using tools such as STK, FreeFlyer, or equivalent.
• Lead development and delivery of systems engineering documentation and customer-facing presentations.
• Serve as Umbra technical lead at reviews, acceptance events, and program milestones (CDR, ICD, VCRM).
• Support flight operations, ground-system sustainment, and flight-software maintenance.
