Job summary

Umbra is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership for a complex space mission program spanning space, ground, launch, mission operations, and mission design.

This individual will serve as the program's senior technical lead, maintaining the program technical baseline and ensuring alignment across internal engineering teams, program leadership, partners, and the customer.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of systems engineering experience on aerospace, spacecraft, or remote sensing programs.
• Knowledge of SAR and remote sensing mission concepts of operations.
• Experience with modeling/simulation tools such as STK or FreeFlyer.
• Ability to develop and lead systems engineering docs, reviews, and customer presentations.
• Experience with flight operations, ground systems, and flight-software maintenance.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and resolve technical issues.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain the program technical baseline with aligned interfaces and architecture.
• Provide systems engineering leadership across Space, Ground, Launch, Mission Operations, and Modeling.
• Maintain technical alignment among Umbra teams, management, partners, and customer.
• Daily partnership with Program Manager to address customer requests and manage scope.
• Support mission design and modeling using tools like STK/FreeFlyer.
• Lead technical reviews, presentations, and customer-facing deliverables.
• Support flight operations, ground-system sustainment, and software upkeep.
• Develop and support training for on-site customer personnel.
• Travel domestically and internationally as required.
