Job summary

Umbra seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership for a complex space mission program spanning space, ground, launch, and operations. Lead the program's technical baseline and align with customers and partners.

Daily collaboration with the Program Manager to manage scope, risks, and requirements; support mission design, simulations, and system documentation; travel as needed.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of systems engineering in aerospace/remote sensing.
• Knowledge of SAR mission concepts of operations.
• Experience with modeling and simulation tools such as STK/FreeFlyer.
• Ability to develop and lead systems engineering documentation, technical reviews, and customer presentations.
• Experience with flight operations, ground systems, and flight-software maintenance.
• Strong written and verbal communication with customers and senior leadership.
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain the program technical baseline and architecture.
• Provide systems engineering leadership across Space, Ground, Launch, Mission Operations, and Modeling & Simulation.
• Maintain technical alignment among Umbra teams, management, partners, and the customer.
• Collaborate daily with the Program Manager to address requests, scope, risks, and offsets.
• Support design, analysis, and modeling using tools like STK/FreeFlyer.
• Lead technical reviews and customer-facing presentations.
• Support flight operations and ground-system sustainment throughout execution.
• Develop training programs for on-site customer personnel.
