Job summary
Umbra seeks a Senior/Staff Flight Software Engineer to design, implement, and integrate flight software for Mission Solutions. You will guide architecture, code, and testing, interfacing with spacecraft subsystems and ground systems. On-site work is in Reston or Arlington, VA.
The role demands deep systems thinking, exceptional communication, and a track record of delivering high-reliability software for space platforms.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in CS/CE or related technical field.
- 8+ years of experience developing high-reliability software systems.
- 5+ years developing concurrent/asynchronous software.
- Active TS/SCI clearance.
- Leading software development for satellite bus or spacecraft platform.
- Embedded software development using Rust and/or C/C++.
- Linux-based software for SoC architectures.
- Knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, IPsec.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain fault-tolerant flight and payload software.
- Architect software to meet system requirements and interfaces with subsystems.
- Create and maintain operation and interface documentation.
- Develop and test command/control software for spacecraft operations.
- Contribute to tests from unit to system level.
- Present complex concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Take on additional professional duties as assigned.
