Job summary

Agile Space Industries seeks an experienced Systems Engineer to lead systems engineering across rocket engine and thruster programs, translating mission needs into requirements and driving architecture, verification, and delivery.

The role demands strong system-level thinking, cross-functional coordination, and direct customer interaction. Onsite in Seattle, WA or Durango, CO, with eligibility for stock options as the company grows.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering or related technical field (or equivalent experience) required.
  • 6+ years driving systems development in aerospace or related field.
  • Experience with liquid propellant rocket engine or thruster hardware development programs.
  • Strong understanding of propulsion, fluid systems, and system integration challenges.
  • Experience defining, decomposing, and managing requirements.
  • Experience in verification and validation planning/execution across lifecycles.
  • Experience with gated design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR, TRR).
  • Experience working with government or commercial customers.
  • Ability to drive system-level decisions and cross-functional alignment.
  • Experience with requirements tools (e.g., JAMA).

Responsibilities

  • Define mission objectives, CONOPS, and system success criteria with customers.
  • Translate mission needs into clear, testable system requirements with traceability.
  • Lead architecture development and trade studies, evaluating performance, risk, cost, and schedule.
  • Ensure cross-discipline integration across propulsion, structures, avionics, thermal, fluids, and manufacturing.
  • Plan and execute verification and validation approaches, including ATPs.
  • Tie verification to requirements and initiate early development lifecycle validation.
  • Lead gated reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.) and risk/trade decisions.
  • Identify and drive closure of technical risks and interface issues.
  • Analyze system performance and recommend design or architecture changes.
  • Facilitate clear communication among customers, teams, and suppliers.
  • Support failure investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Contribute to improving SE processes and tools across programs.
