Job summary

Vast, a leader in space station development, seeks an Associate General Counsel to guide national security and satellite transactions. You will advise on DoD/Space Force contracts, OTAs, and export controls, partnering with BD, security, and engineering to close high-value deals.

The role is full-time, exempt, based in Long Beach, CA or Washington, DC, reporting to the General Counsel. You will handle international engagements and ensure compliance across programs.

Qualifications

• JD with admission to practice law in a state bar in good standing and ability to practice in-house in California or DC.
• 9+ years of experience in a legal role with substantial government contracts or national security transactions.
• Knowledge of FAR, DFARS, and related regulatory frameworks; ability to obtain a security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Advise on and negotiate government contracts with DoD and Space Force, including OTAs and prime/subcontractor arrangements.
• Structure and negotiate satellite and space systems transactions, including launch and data agreements.
• Support international engagements balancing export controls and commercial interests.
• Provide business-oriented legal guidance to enable rapid execution with risk controls.
• Lead cross-functional deal work with BD, security, finance, and engineering throughout the lifecycle.
• Support special projects and work with internal legal and outside counsel as needed.
