Job summary

True Anomaly in Denver, CO and Long Beach, CA seeks a Principal Embedded Systems Security Engineer to own security across spacecraft, radio systems, and hardware platforms. You will design security platforms, PKI, secure boot, and key management for embedded systems used in space missions.

Lead security architecture and threat modeling across flight software, firmware, and hardware, collaborating with cross-functional teams to harden systems and protect mission-critical assets.

Qualifications

• Deep hands-on expertise in embedded, hardware, and firmware security, incl. hardware attack surfaces, side-channel and fault-injection attacks.
• Strong software development skills in C and C++, across multiple languages and low levels (assembly, firmware).
• Proven track record of building production security platforms, tooling, and foundational services used by hardware and embedded teams.
• Deep, expert-level PKI knowledge for embedded and resource-constrained systems.

Responsibilities

• Own the security architecture, threat modeling, and defensive controls for spacecraft platform components (flight computer, firmware, FPGA, cryptographic implementations, secure boot).
• Architect and build security platforms, tooling, and services ensuring secure-by-default across flight software, firmware, and hardware configurations.
• Design and implement PKI for resource-constrained spacecraft, including device authentication and firmware signing chains.
• Architect cryptographic implementations to meet government standards (FIPS 140-3, CNSA 2.0, CCSDS SDLS) and migrate toward post-quantum cryptography.
• Secure the build/deployment pipeline and protect supply-chain integrity of outputs and dependencies.
• Lead security assessments and pen-testing of spacecraft, RF systems, and test environments.
• Drive secure design practices and integrate security across development lifecycle.
• Tackle novel challenges in space-based systems and stay ahead of embedded/RF threats, using AI to accelerate work.
