Job summary

CesiumAstro in Austin, TX seeks a Principal Communications System Engineer II to lead space architecture concepts, subsystem and payload design, and requirements development across multidisciplinary teams. You will champion CONOPS, risk assessment, and system-level integration.

Ideal candidates have 11+ years in space communications, deep RF theory knowledge, FPGA and vector processing experience, and familiarity with NR NTN/DVB-S2x/CCSDS, plus scripting (Python/C++).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 11+ years in space communications.
• Strong background in communication theory.
• Deep understanding of RF concepts and impairments.
• Experience with FPGA and vector processing engines.
• Experience with satellite-communications standards (NR NTN, DVB-S2x, CCSDS).
• Experience with at least one scripting and one programming language (Python & C++).
• Ability to hold a security clearance.
• Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
• Ability to define work direction, track milestones, and manage large projects.

Responsibilities

• Define and validate space system requirements and interfaces.
• Lead development of space architecture concepts, sub-system design, payload design, and CONOPS development.
• Coordinate activities across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Lead trade studies to optimize system architecture.
• Support reviews of requests for proposals and solution development.
• Develop and direct technical concept development in support of proposals.
• Lead development of space architecture concepts, sub-system design, payload design, ground station design, requirements development, analysis, and risk reduction.
• Select and define modem and data layer configurations.
• Participate in developing system engineering processes for requirements management, flow down, and traceability.
