Job summary

Blue Origin in Washington is seeking a Power Engineer to own the design, development, and testing of spacecraft avionics hardware from component to integrated system. You will prototype in the lab, build harnesses, and verify hardware for flight readiness.

Collaborating with mechanical, thermal, and software teams, you will define vehicle architecture, ensure radiation-hardening, manage power budgets, and contribute to end-to-end avionics solutions for spaceflight missions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in avionics and power hardware development for aerospace or high-reliability applications.
  • Hands-on engineer with direct experience building wire harnesses and prototype electronics.
  • Understanding of common circuit analyses (Worst Case, Derating, Power, Timing).
  • Experience designing for space radiation environment and its effects on electronics.
  • Experience with sensor interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, RS-422, CAN, Ethernet).
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium Designer or Cadence.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test spacecraft avionics systems.
  • Lead power systems design and analysis including generation, storage, regulation, and distribution.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and test hardware, build wire harnesses, solder, and integrate sensor systems.
  • Design for space environment, applying radiation hardening to ensure system reliability.
  • Define and manage requirements for various sensors and electrical interfaces.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and thermal teams to influence vehicle layout and packaging.
  • Develop schematics, PCB layouts, and simulations (SPICE).
  • Create test plans and reports for hardware verification and validation.
  • Troubleshoot complex hardware issues and support vehicle-level testing and launches.
  • Maintain electrical power budgets by mission phase.
