Job summary

Republic Services is seeking a Level 2 Sorter to oversee operations support at our recycling center. You will manage inventory control, quality checks, and safety compliance while coordinating with equipment operators to optimize the sort line.

You will sort recoverable materials such as aluminum, plastic, glass, and paper, deposit them into the correct chute, and assist fellow sorters with heavy items. Daily cleaning and light maintenance are expected.

Qualifications

• Trained in Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
• Minimum of 6 months related experience in a recycling center.

Responsibilities

• Sort and segregate recoverable materials from incoming waste and remove non-recyclable items.
• Deposit recoverable material safely into the appropriate chute.
• Assist other sorters on an as-needed basis with heavy or bulky items.
• Communicate with equipment operators regarding loads requiring special attention.
• Increase production of the sort line by minimizing down time and training sorters.
• Ensure safety rules are followed on the sort line and stop the conveyor in emergencies.
• Inspect and remove jams on the sort line.
• Clean automated sorting equipment daily and perform light maintenance tasks.
• Maintain facility cleanliness during shift and perform end-of-shift cleaning.
• Assist Maintenance Technicians during system repairs as assigned.
• Distinguish different recyclables ( plastics, glass, paper, metals ) correctly.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
