Job summary

Mecklenburg County is seeking a solid waste equipment operator for LUESA at the Hickory Grove Recycling Center in Charlotte, NC. The position is non-exempt, hourly, with a rotating schedule Monday through Saturday, 6:30am to 4:30pm.

You will operate heavy diesel and hydraulic equipment, conduct load inspections, assist with maintenance, and help ensure safety on job sites. Minimum six years of experience and a High School Diploma are required; a Class A/B CDL and related certificates may be

Qualifications

• Minimum of six years of relevant experience.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• CDL A/B with endorsements may be required depending on assignment; state regs apply.

Responsibilities

• Perform load inspections on waste materials and monitor for unacceptable items.
• Operate heavy equipment for processing, collection and disposal of recyclables and waste.
• Perform complex maintenance on Diesel equipment used in solid waste operations.
• Maintain a clean work area to prevent damage to vehicles.
• Drive semi-tractor trailers hauling materials and heavy equipment.
• Assist with truck and tool cleaning and maintenance.
• Load/unload heavy equipment from trucks and vehicles.
• Monitor safety at job sites and for co-workers.
• Operate CDL-required solid waste vehicles.
