Job summary

Harnett County seeks an employee to ensure Solid Waste Management facilities comply with local, state, and federal regulations as approved by the NC Department of Environmental Quality. Duties include grounds maintenance, landfill upkeep, litter removal, transfer station cleaning, and operating and maintaining equipment.

The role requires a high school diploma and two years of related experience, a valid NC driver’s license, and ideally a NC CDL.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of related experience (or equivalent education).
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
• Completion of Solid Waste Screening and SWANA Landfill Operations training (desired).

Responsibilities

• Open and close facilities as needed.
• Operate light equipment (mowers, tractors, trailers).
• Maintain landfill grounds and landfill caps; clean transfer station floors.
• Collect fees and make bank deposits; keep incident reports for NCDEQ compliance.
• Perform other related duties and assist with waste separation and loading.
