Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Elkton, MD seeks a Solid Rocket Motor Thermal Analyst Engineer (Level 3/4) to perform advanced thermal analyses across propulsion systems. You will develop CFD models, validate results, and collaborate with IPT leads to ensure cost- effective technical execution.

The role requires STEM degrees with relevant experience, knowledge of STAR CCM/ANSYS/NX and Matlab/Simulink, and US citizenship for a Secret Clearance. A strong focus on communication and mentorship is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM plus five years of related experience or Master’s degree in STEM plus three years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of system modeling tools such as STAR CCM, ANSYS, NX solid modeling software, and/or Matlab/Simulink.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite.
  • Prior experience in rocket propulsion, heat transfer, thermodynamics, or compressible fluid mechanics.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present analytical results in both oral and written formats.

Responsibilities

  • Under minimal direction, conduct thermal analyses across Northrop Grumman propulsion product lines, including CFD and model validation.
  • Analyze rocket motor case insulation, nozzles, and thermal protection systems; assess test data for correlation.
  • Develop methodologies and models to capture physics and material properties accurately.
  • Interpret results and provide recommendations for system improvements.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal and external customers.
  • Provide mentorship and lead project teams in propulsion projects.
  • Collaborate with customer technical contacts to support cost and technical execution.
