Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems in Elkton, Maryland seeks an experienced Propulsion Engineer – Structural Analysis to support solid rocket motor development efforts. The role involves performing structural analyses, building mathematical models, and interpreting results for design improvements.

Qualifications include a STEM degree with 2+ years (or Master’s with 0+), experience with FEA tools (ABAQUS/NASTRAN/ANSYS/FEMAP), and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 2+ years of related experience or Master’s degree in STEM with 0+ years of experience.
  • Experience in modeling with FEA software (ABAQUS, NASTRAN, ANSYS, FEMAP, or equivalent).
  • Ability to prepare and present analytical results clearly in oral and written formats.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, presentation and critical thinking skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct structural analyses in support of solid rocket motor propulsion system design and verification activities.
  • Create mathematical models to match the physics of the system under evaluation with proper analysis methods/tools.
  • Assist project team in design of experiments to provide necessary data.
  • Interpret analytical results and develop recommendations for system improvement.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and presentations to internal and external customers.
  • Support technical assessments of test hardware and test data including validation of analysis.
  • Support propulsion and subsystem IPT leads to ensure technical and cost execution of each component.
  • Form close working relationships with the customer technical community and customer points of contact.
