Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a senior performance engineer in a hybrid Chicago-based role, focusing on solar PV energy yield assessments and storage integration. You will model performance, mentor engineers, and communicate complex findings to clients and stakeholders.

The position emphasizes long-term production analysis, data-driven decision making, and collaboration with developers, utilities, and financiers on high-visibility engagements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a science discipline and a comprehensive understanding of solar resource assessment and energy yield prediction methodology.
• 10+ years of experience in the energy industry with solar project design, renewable due diligence, uncertainty and data analysis.
• Proficiency with data analysis tools and familiarity with renewable energy project execution and finance.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience writing technical reports and proposals; strong interpersonal and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform solar resource assessments using satellite-based and ground-based data.
• Analyze operational production and climatic data from solar projects.
• Lead and mentor a team of performance engineers across solar, wind, and battery energy storage projects.
• Conduct long-term solar PV energy production assessments using PVsyst and Excel-based tools.
• Support independent engineering and technical due diligence for project financing or asset acquisition of solar projects.
• Review project contracts (PPA, EPC, O&M) and assess CAPEX/OPEX and performance parameters.
