Senior Solar Energy Engineer - Energy Solutions - CMTA

CMTA, located at 2751 Prosperity Avenue, Fairfax, Virginia, is seeking a Senior Solar Energy Engineer to join our Energy Solutions division. CMTA is a rapidly growing engineering firm specializing in sustainable, high-performance building engineering and guaranteed energy savings performance contracts (ESPCs). Our team focuses on innovative solutions including zero energy buildings and energy-efficient upgrades.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will work with a team of engineers to design, bid, manage, and commission solar PV systems for various clients. The role requires a self-motivated individual with a strong technical background and a client-focused approach.

Desired Experience:

• 5-10+ years in PV installations (small to large commercial, 50kW to 1MW+)
• NABCEP PV Installation, Designer, Commissioning, or Inspector Certification (preferred)
• Knowledge of AC & DC electrical wiring, communications, and monitoring systems (e.g., SMA, SolarEdge, Fronius, Chint)
• Thorough understanding of NEC electrical code, especially section 690
• Experience with PV interconnection documents and utility tariffs
• Proficiency in PV production modeling tools (SAM, Helioscope)
• Ability to interpret structural drawings and industry terminology

Desired Skills:

• Experience with Revit/AutoCAD (preferred)
• Electrical engineering skills, including single-line diagrams and wire/conduit sizing
• Knowledge of grid-tied PV systems and components
• Understanding of 3-phase power systems
• Project management experience and familiarity with project workflows and deadlines
• Knowledge of inverter products and design software (SMA, SolarEdge, Fronius)

Desired Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
