The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in a technical field and 4+ years in software testing and automation, with strong Python and Linux skills, plus experience in CI/CD and cross-functional teamwork.

Yoh has an exciting, contract opportunity for a Senior Software Test & Automation Engineer to join our Autonomous Technology client. This opportunity is ideal for candidates within commutable distance of San Diego, CA or Dallas, TX who are comfortable working in an onsite environment.

This engineer will support the testing and validation of advanced autonomous systems by developing automated test frameworks, building validation tools, and executing system-level verification across simulated and hardware-based environments. The role will partner closely with software, systems, integration, and test teams to improve test coverage, identify system issues, and ensure software is ready for deployment.

Title: Senior Software Test & Automation Engineer

Location: San Diego, CA or Dallas, TX (Onsite)

Compensation: $65.00–$85.00/hour depending on experience

Type: Contract

Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the United States. Additional U.S. Person eligibility requirements may apply based on access to export-controlled technology.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain automated testing frameworks, validation tools, and supporting infrastructure for complex autonomous software systems.
• Develop and execute verification strategies across simulation, Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), Vehicle-in-the-Loop (VIL), and other representative test environments.
• Create automated regression, integration, functional, and performance testing to improve software reliability and release confidence.
• Build Python-based automation, test harnesses, and data analysis tools to increase testing efficiency and repeatability.
• Review test results, troubleshoot software and system integration issues, and participate in root‑cause investigations.
• Develop metrics, reporting tools, and dashboards that provide visibility into software quality, performance, and deployment readiness.
• Incorporate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to provide continuous validation and timely feedback to engineering teams.
• Partner with software, systems, integration, and test engineering teams to establish validation strategies, test requirements, and readiness criteria.
• Continuously improve automation coverage, test infrastructure, and verification processes for advanced autonomous platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 4+ years of experience in software testing, test automation, verification and validation, or related engineering work involving robotics, autonomous systems, aerospace, or similarly complex systems.
• Strong Python programming skills with experience developing automation, testing, or data analysis solutions.
• Hands‑on experience creating automated test frameworks, test harnesses, or validation infrastructure.
• Experience working within Linux‑based development environments.
• Experience testing software using simulation, SIL, HIL, VIL, or comparable hardware‑integrated environments.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex software and system‑level integration problems.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated or continuous testing practices.
• Solid understanding of software verification, regression testing, integration testing, and quality methodologies.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in cross‑functional engineering environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with autonomous vehicles, robotics, unmanned aircraft, or other safety‑critical systems.
• Familiarity with flight‑control platforms such as ArduPilot or PX4.
• Experience supporting fixed‑wing or multirotor unmanned aerial systems.
• Knowledge of flight controllers, radios, communications equipment, or related embedded hardware.
• Previous experience within aerospace, defense, aviation, or autonomous technology environments.

Estimated Min Rate: $56.00

Estimated Max Rate: $80.00
