A leading company in the real estate sector is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead their engineering team. This role involves overseeing product development, mentoring engineers, and ensuring quality and performance standards. The position is fully remote, offering flexible hours and a dynamic work environment.
Spotahome is managing to transform -at an international level- the process of searching for medium/long stay accommodation (+30 days) into a 100% online experience thanks to its reservation platform.

Spotahome started as a startup created in 2014 by 4 friends with a vision: to revolution the traditional real estate space. Its starting point would be the digitization of rentals.
What do they do?
They facilitate the rental process by allowing people to book 100% online from anywhere in the world. At this point I imagine that the following question is popping up: how do I rent a house without seeing it in situ, without “touching” it?
Easy answer : they are the only company that sends "Homecheckers" to take videos, plans and photos (even to the drawers of the house) to ensure that what you rent is real and that there is a good match with the interested person.
They have already helped more than 150,000 people find that perfect home and have more than 100,000 properties in Europe and Asia on their platform.
As a (Senior) Engineering Manager, you will join the leadership team within the Product and Engineering organization, reporting directly to their VP of Engineering, Product and Marketing.
It is an opportunity to occupy an essential position within the Spotahome gear and, above all, a high-impact one for them. You will meet, and you will be presented with very interesting challenges that will have to be solved as a team and that are given by the singularities of the market model with which they work.
You will lead the development tribe dedicated to the products they currently have for owners hosted on their platform. And you will do it together with other colleagues from the front line: a product manager and a marketing manager. You will use technology to improve the lives and performance of their owners, as well as the acquisition and activation of homes.
You will help develop and maintain great software with an emphasis on speed, reliability and quality, always with the customer and their profit at the center.
You will maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, and software development best practices.

In order for the relationship to be close and lasting, you will have a 1:1 relationship with your manager as often as you decide. Normally, it is usually at the beginning weekly. Jorge will be the person responsible for this, as well as for the performance reviews and continuous feedback, just as you will be responsible for offering the best managerial experience to all your teammates.

You will understand and be clear about the objectives of your squad and the core of the business, and you will already have internalized it, although you will be wanting to discover everything that remains to be known.
You will do your onboarding with your buddy, who will accompany you on landing during the first months so that you know at all times when what is and who to turn to for anything.
-You will meet the team and your direct reports. You will establish a relationship with them, since they will be the most important part of the work, the communication.
- You will meet the owner, who is the end customer and is the second most relevant part of the job, absorbing all the qualitative (user research) and quantitative (A/B tests and customer journey map) knowledge.
- You will get to know the Spotahome business, the business plan and the objectives they have for this year, and like all of this, it will affect the OKRs and the objectives of the team you will lead.
- You will become familiar with their way of working, and you will measure the equipment.
You will lead an existing engineering team and turn it into a tribe of engineers made up of various Squads.
You will promote within the engineering area a culture of speed, learning and fast iteration, but don't worry, they don't lose focus on quality.
You will focus the technological design on the end user, so you must understand their real needs and for this, you will collaborate closely with the product team.
You will contribute to the recruitment and growth/development of the organization.
You will manage projects and provide the necessary leadership in a fast-paced and innovative environment, in collaboration with the Senior Engineering Developers of the teams.
You will identify opportunities to share technical knowledge and best practices among the teams in your tribe.
You will support product leaders, technology and engineering teams to ensure their success.
You will be responsible for the overall planning, execution and success of complex technical projects.
You will put into practice your knowledge of architecture and development, contributing to the design and implementation of its operational platform, from the domain level to RESTful APIs, GraphQL APIs, Async communication through queues and message buses, applying CQRS principles. , DDD, Event Sourcing and Hexagonal Architecture with whom they work.

On the other hand, market demand is not immediate, it is a well thought out decision that is not always easy to make and that can be affected by the average market price. -Your people: You will have a number of engineers who will report directly to you. You will be responsible for their well-being, their contribution and their own development. You will be their mentor and help them become even more amazing than they already are. You will also help them grow their teams, so hiring will be one of your functions. In the same way, you will have Top colleagues by your side (other managers of engineering teams, product and marketing managers) with whom you will work hand in hand, learn and contribute in each area in a collaborative way.
-Your Job: Technology: As an Engineering Leader, you will partner with the engineers on the team and ensure that engineering decision making is well oiled. They have built a somewhat complex microservices architecture, so you need to be well aligned in highly distributed systems so that you can train and guide your team towards the best results. You will ensure that the engineering process adheres to Spotahome's standard for quality, operational excellence and engineering excellence.
-Your clients. Together with your peers, you will immerse yourself in the product discovery process, being the voice of technology in multiple strategic forums within the house, ensuring that the best possible results are created for your tenants. You'll have a say in product discovery and prioritization techniques, partnering effectively with the people who manage and design the product to serve and learn from our customers in the most efficient way possible.
-How to add value: The process: You will guarantee fluid teamwork within the teams you will lead (more than one, over time), and fluid collaboration between them (inside and outside your tribe). You will ensure that information flows between teams and organizations, and that each team and individual has the tools and information they need to be successful.

At Spotahome they firmly believe in conciliation and self-organization so that each person is the owner of their work and their time.
Normally, they start between 08:00 and 10:00 and finish between 17:00 and 19:00. They like that their people have the option of spending a long weekend and that's why they give the option of doing half an hour more from Monday to Thursday to be able to go out on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
As for the theme of vacations, they have 23 days and they also have 2 days of personal affairs and a day off to choose between Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve. ️

At the level of experience and knowledge this is what they ask us:
+5 years of relevant engineering experience and +2 years of engineering management experience. If you have more experience in managing technical projects and people, it is a plus for the position of Senior Engineering Manager.
Experience building and defining digital products and platforms at scale.
Experience with design patterns and architecture of large-scale distributed systems.
Experience leading software teams through agile methodologies and software best practices.
Experience leading high performance engineering teams delivering significant and measurable value to the end customer.
Ability to mentor and develop engineers and engage with developer communities.
Learn fast and have the desire to learn; that you are passionate about training and helping others.
Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Good and structured communication skills.
