Job summary

System One is seeking a Lead Software Engineer for a contract role in Reston, VA, with remote work options. You will lead a team in designing, developing, and delivering multi-application solutions for tens of thousands of users, setting technical direction and standards.

You will collaborate with architects, PMs, and stakeholders, mentor junior developers, and drive CI/CD, TDD/BDD practices, and modern deployment workflows across frontend and backend stacks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or Computer Science is required.
• 8+ years of experience in software design and development, and related areas.
• Collaborate with Architects, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and Value Stream Managers to deliver business value.
• Decompose requirements into activities and create prototypes and test cycles.
• Identify risks and mitigate them; promote best practices and standards.
• Mentor junior developers and review others' work.
• Communicate technical requirements to all levels of expertise.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of software engineers in design, development, and implementation of multiple applications.
• Perform design, coding, code reviews and testing of new and existing applications.
• Serve as SME for systems and their integrations; develop interface documentation.
• Drive architecture discussions, CI/CD, and deployment practices; mentor juniors.
