Job summary

Defense Unicorns seeks a Platform Engineer to join our platform team, a combined DevOps/SRE function responsible for the reliability of a cloud‑based platform. You’ll work on Kubernetes clusters, IaC, CI/CD, IAM, and monitoring to keep systems scalable and secure.

You’ll collaborate across teams, write documentation and ADRs, and participate in on‑call rotations while mentoring junior engineers. This role requires US citizenship and security considerations.

Qualifications

• Hands-on Kubernetes deployment, management, and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with IaC tools like Terraform or Pulumi.
• CI/CD tooling experience, especially GitLab CI.
• Linux/Unix administration and shell access.
• Cloud platforms (prefer AWS) and containerized workloads.
• YAML fluency for manifests, CRDs, Helm, and pipelines.
• Familiarity with Keycloak for IAM and security practices.
• Ability to read/write infrastructure-related security standards.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and improve Kubernetes clusters and deployments across cloud environments (AWS, EKS, RKE2).
• Develop and manage infrastructure as code to provision resources consistently.
• Own and improve CI/CD pipelines including GitLab configuration and runners.
• Support IAM via Keycloak including onboarding and role configuration.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging for platform health and incident response.
• Manage certificate lifecycle automation and renewal processes.
• Contribute to platform security through container security practices and ATO support.
• Collaborate with application teams to troubleshoot deployments and pipelines.
• Write and maintain runbooks, ADRs, and engineering standards.
• Contribute to strategic planning aligning tech with mission objectives.
• Participate in on-call rotations and mentor junior engineers.
