Job summary

Affirm is seeking a senior software leader to drive technical strategy and system design for large-scale, high-availability services. You will build robust APIs and data models within micro-service and event-driven architectures.

The role requires 5+ years in software engineering, strong leadership, and proficiency in Python or Kotlin, plus cloud and container experience (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud; Docker, Kubernetes). Remote-first with flexible in-person onboarding across the US.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years in software development or engineering with system design expertise.
• Strong leadership and a culture of continuous learning.
• Excellent communication and the ability to explain complex ideas.
• Proficiency in Python, Kotlin, or similar languages.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of SQL/NoSQL databases, web frameworks, and RESTful APIs.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical strategy by planning, prioritizing, and executing projects aligned with product and business goals.
• Lead end-to-end design and development of large-scale, high-availability services.
• Collaborate with Product, Analytics, Design, Legal, and Accounting to define requirements.
• Ensure system health and performance; optimize code for robustness and scalability.
• Mentor engineers, lead design reviews, and promote best practices through code reviews.
