Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead design, development, and deployment of complex applications for the VA Data Modernization initiative. This fully remote role is based in the United States.

You will mentor mid-level engineers, drive CI/CD pipelines, and ensure secure, scalable solutions in Agile teams. Strong Java/J2EE, REST, and cloud experience are required, with Azure familiarity preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of related experience.
• Expertise with Java Spring, Hibernate, and JPA.
• Strong JavaScript proficiency and API design.
• RESTful services and ORM experience.
• Agile/Scrum experience; English communication.
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred).

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and deployment of complex applications.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to mid-level engineers.
• Design robust CI/CD pipelines to enable automated build, test, and deployment.
• Collaborate with architects, product managers, and cross-functional teams to align with business goals.
• Conduct thorough code reviews and enforce best practices in software engineering.
• Optimize application performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Ensure security, reliability, and compliance of applications.
