Job summary

GovCIO is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Data Modernization initiative. The engineer will lead design, development, and deployment of complex applications as part of a cross-domain solution.

This position is fully remote, located in the United States. You will collaborate with product owners, architects, and DevOps to deliver scalable, secure software inside an Agile framework, mentor mid-level engineers, and drive best

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field and 12 years of experience.
• Proficiency with Java frameworks: Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, JPA.
• Strong proficiency in modern JavaScript and RESTful APIs.
• Solid understanding of OOP, design patterns, and Java best practices.
• Experience with Git (ADO or GitHub) and Agile/Scrum teams.
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and ORM tools.
• Experience with unit and integration testing and TDD.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to translate requirements into features.
• Lead design, development, and deployment of complex applications.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to mid-level engineers.
• Define technical solutions aligned with business goals and architecture.
• Conduct code reviews and enforce best practices in software engineering.
• Design and optimize CI/CD pipelines and collaborate with DevOps.
• Ensure security, reliability, and compliance of applications.
