Job summary

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) invites applications for a full-time Senior Software Engineer to join the Reliability Technologies team in a role focused on design, development, and maintenance of software products across front-end, back-end, and database layers.

The candidate will participate in the full SDLC, mentor other developers, and provide on-call support for production applications. A strong background in Java, JavaScript, SQL, and cloud platforms is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Seven years performing software development in a multi-dimensional team setting.
• Energy/Utility industry experience desired.
• Experience with cloud development platforms (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes) desired.
• Java, JavaScript, SQL experience required.
• Oracle PL/SQL experience desired.
• Experience leveraging AI-assisted software development tools to improve productivity, code quality and delivery efficiency.
• Knowledge of AI-generated code review and validation practices desired.

Responsibilities

• Solve architecture and design problems using technical knowledge.
• Translate business requirements into detailed application requirements.
• Create software design specifications aligned with standards and blueprints.
• Evaluate new technology and tools to enhance development process.
• Present design issues to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Document product architecture plans.
• Design and implement scalable, secure software with performance tuning.
• Lead projects with management support and mentor engineers.
• Provide expert support across the software development lifecycle.
• Coordinate with project managers on estimates and status.
