Job summary

Northern Trust is seeking a Senior Analyst, Software Engineering to support and enhance a suite of business-critical applications used by our partners and clients in Chicago. The role emphasizes investigating production issues, partnering with business users, and delivering code fixes and enhancements in a fast-paced environment.

You will develop with Java, Spring, and SQL, participate in releases, and mentor teammates while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable systems

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• 2+ years in enterprise applications support and development.
• Strong hands-on Java and Spring/Spring Boot.
• Strong SQL skills and database troubleshooting.
• Experience debugging across application, DB, and integration layers.
• Experience in production support, application support, or DevOps-oriented environments.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for critical applications, ensuring timely investigation and resolution of production issues.
• Partner with business users to understand issues, gather requirements, and provide guidance.
• Perform root‑cause analysis of application, data, and integration issues and implement sustainable solutions.
• Develop, test, and deploy fixes, enhancements, and minor features using Java and Spring-based technologies.
• Analyze SQL queries, stored procedures, and database structures to diagnose data-related issues and improve performance.
• Participate in release validation, user acceptance testing, and production deployments.
• Monitor application health and identify opportunities to improve reliability and supportability.
• Prepare technical documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge-sharing materials.
• Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and business teams to ensure seamless delivery and support.
• Support project initiatives by contributing to requirements analysis, solution design, testing, and implementation activities.
• Mentor junior team members and share technical expertise across the team.
