Job summary

Compass is seeking a Senior Engineer to own the core data layer, protecting millions of records while building tooling used across the company. You will design and operate the database and caching fleet, implement tenant-safe access patterns, and guide upgrades with zero downtime.

You will also develop observability platforms and SDKs, and work with product teams to scale infrastructure safely and efficiently.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and operating distributed systems in production.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or similar databases in AWS.
• Experience shipping SDKs or client libraries for internal or external use.
• Go programming and comfort with Terraform, Kubernetes, and IAM-heavy AWS environments.
• Led cross-team operational programs including change management, migrations, and rollback planning.

Responsibilities

• Design and operate the database and caching fleet (PostgreSQL/Aurora, Redis/ElastiCache) powering Compass core products.
• Build multi-tenant data isolation into the data layer and ship SDKs in Go, Java, and Python.
• Own production database upgrades at fleet scale with zero downtime.
• Build and scale Kafka/MSK streaming infrastructure and associated deployment strategies.
• Develop observability tooling and dashboards for real-time data-layer insights.
• Collaborate with product and platform teams to ensure readiness for scaling events and incident resolution.
